The proposed development of Fort Halstead and its surrounding land is a matter of concern to the Parish Council. At this time the owners of the site, Hines, have not submitted a planning application but have embarked on various consultations with District Councillors and local people.
A Working Group has been formed which is made up of two representatives from Halstead, Dunton Green, Knockholt and Shoreham Parish Councils. Chevening Parish Council has just agreed to join the group. The purpose of the WG is to looking to all matters appertaining to the site in readiness to tackle the planning application when it arrives. One Councillor from each of Otford, Riverhead and Sundridge Parish Councils also attend as observers.
Simon O'Donnell, Project Director of Hines & Co. owners of the site, has given a presentation to members of the Working Group and councillors from Halstead, Dunton Green, Knockholt, Otford, Riverhead and Shoreham Parish Councils.
Halstead Parish Council is discussing the possibility of holding a public meeting in 2008, prior to the application being received.
Hines and Co. have prepared a brochure outlining their aspirations for the site.
A Vision for Fort Halstead
Members of the Working Group have also held meetings with both SDC Planning staff and the LDF Development team, to discuss how current planning legislation applies to the Fort, and how it may potentially change in the future, within the LDF.
The Parish Council will keep parishioners fully informed on this matter.
